Last night was our club's Anti-Tweed ride. This ride was for something different than the current trend of bicycle tweed rides being done all over the country. Google "Tweed Ride" for more on that. More info, photos and a video from the evening here.
BTW the shopping cart bike is not ours. As much as I tried I couldn't ride the thing. It has just one wheel in the front.
The first one was previously this Schwinn Ratrod. Built it to ride at tonight's Ant-Tweed ride. Needed some green to clash with my outfit.
The second is the frame I bought at last Sunday's swap meet. Monark I think. The forks were off a newer Murry I believe and the fork truss/fake springer thing of a 60s bike. Brooks saddle.
Today was the first Midwest Bicycle Swap which was held here in my hometown. It was a great time and a great turnout. I really didn't have much to sell and had to scrounge to get what I brought. Fortunately the old adage of "one man's trash..." proved true. Unfortunately the adage of "you snooze you loose" also proved true. Several things I was contemplating buying sold before I could make up my mind. I enjoyed seeing the usual bunch and meeting several new people.
More about the day here.
In addition to bikes and parts I was also selling Coasters Bicycle Club and Wichita Pub Pedal t-shirts. I still have a few left. Contact me if interested.
My Mother also has left over denim and chambray Coasters and Cruiser shirts for sale online here.
Klunkerz
Documentary on the history of early off-road bikes and riding. It covers the evolution of the off-road bike from pre-war Schwinns (klunkerz) to the first purpose built mountain bikes. A lot of commentary from the pioneers of mountain biking with names you might recognize like Fisher and Ritchie.
Visit klunkerz.com for more information or to purchase the DVD.
We watched this movie for the second time the other night (It's rare I watch anything a second time). This is a great documentary. I give it 2 thumb shifters up.
Today we rode the K-96 Bicycle Path in the big city. We've been putting this one off because it didn't look like that great of a ride. It wasn't. The short section that goes through Chisholm Park is the nicest. The rest goes through business areas and along the K96 bypass. The path is poorly marked at the major street crossings leaving you to guess which direction to go after crossing. Conveniently there is a convenience store at the southern end point. This is probably a great path for getting around if you live in the area.
We rode about 14 miles total out and back.
After the ride we stopped in Old Town at Old Chicago for an after ride beverage and lunch.
1974 Schwinn Speedster 3 speed. Bought this at a church rummage sale. It's a really nice bike and in good condition. Rode it for a couple of miles this afternoon and it rides great but it's just a little big for me. I'll probably resell it. Thanks Cameron for telling me about it.
Schwinn OCC Stingray. Bought this at a thrift store. Plan on selling it at the upcoming Midwest Bicycle Swap
