Today Ally, Blake and I rode along the Arkansas River path and a few other places for a bout 12 miles. This was Ally's longest ride and she did fine. It was a beautiful day for a ride.
A spectacular crash, a flat tire and a surprise special guest. Video...
A year ago I subscribed to Bicycle Times Magazine. It seems to be geared (no pun intended) towards everyday, commuter type cyclists. Even though I'm not that type of rider I have always found something entertaining and informative in each issue. My subscription is up and even though it was a nice magazine I've decided not to renew.
The Bendix Automatic I rebuilt last night works great. Rode that bike along with Nova and the Grand-kids to the park tonight. The squeak is gone and the growling noise that I always thought was normal is a lot quiter. Here we are hogging the bike rack.
Out for a ride today on this bike and the Bendix 2 speed "kickback" started to squeak. I decided to tear it apart and re-grease it when I got back. This was my first time taking apart a Bendix Automatic. Everything looked to be in really good shape including the grease except for one set of bearings. Hopefully that was the noise problem. I cleaned, greased and reassembled everything. I had to make one tool (upper right of photo) to loosen an adjusting cone lock nut but other than that it went a lot better than I expected. With the wheel back on the bike and the bike on the repair stand it seems to be working ok. I'll have to road test it later.
Today Grandson Blake and I took a short road-trip to Hutchinson to ride the Jim P Martinez Sunflower Trail. Temperature I'm guessing was in the upper 40s. A lot more wind than we had planned on. We rode 11.5 miles. After we rewarded ourselves with Mexican food.
We had a meeting today at our house to discuss and plan a bike event. Following the meeting some of us rode over to Tim's house to check out his bike collection.
