The last ride on our trip was Thursday which was a out and back ride that was on gravel and forest roads in Grand county Colorado. The ride takes you to the top of Dice Hill which seemed more like a mountain than a hill. It was a pretty challenging climb for us. It was a 12 mile ride total with a climb of 1768 ft.
GPS track here.
The next stop on our trip is Frisco Colorado. Today we rode from Frisco, through Copper Mountain (10 Mile Canyon Trail) and to the top of Vail pass and back. I think the elevation gain is 1500 feet with the elevation at the top of Vail Pass being 10554 feet. Once back to Frisco we ate lunch at the Moose Jaw. After lunch we took a stroll through Frisco then got back on the bikes and rode to Breckenridge (Blue River Bikeway) and back. Total we rode 44 miles. It was 20 years ago that we first rode these same trails.
Today while driving from Laramie, WY to Frisco, CO we decided to take a detour into Steamboat Springs for lunch. While driving through town we spotted a bike path so after lunch we did an impromptu ride along the entire Yampa Core Trail which follows the Yampa river. This was a 13 mile ride. After the ride we were back on the road to Frisco stopping at Murphy's for dinner in Silverthorne.
In July of 1992 we took a trip to Summit County, Colorado along with our Daughter and my Parents. Nova, my Dad and I went mountain biking during the day while our Daughter and my Mother went sight seeing. The year before just Nova and I made this same trip and we rode up and back down Vail Pass. This time we trucked the bikes to the top and just coasted down. I filmed it using our old camcorder.
Last night I stumbled on to the VHS, put it in the vcr and pointed the digital camera at the tv. Here's just a few snippets from the original video...
On our way back home from Ft Collins and the TDF last weekend we stopped in Boulder to check out University Bicycles. One of the nicer shops we've visited. A nice collection of vintage bikes hang from the ceiling and a lot of cool bicycle decor everywhere.
This Labor Day weekend we took off for Ft Collins, Colorado to attend the Tour De Fat put on by the New Belgium Brewery (makers of Fat Tire and many other beers). This was our 4th TDF, our 2nd in Ft Collins (the Mother Ship) and the biggest one yet. What a great time! They estimate 15,000 bikes rode in the parade. Food, beer, vaudeville acts, great costumes and bikes, music by Mucca Pazza and a lot more. A few others from our bike club were also there.
While vacationing in Colorado this week I took photos of bikes in the towns of Salida, Cripple Creek, Gunnison and Leadville. Such a wide variety of bikes from brand new Electras and Nirves to old Schwinns and everything in between. Hardly an empty bike rack to be found. Also rare were bikes that were locked.
We also checked out the bike shops in these towns which we always try to do when traveling. Photos here.
