Yesterday along with our bike group and my entire family, we hosted a bicycle show and bicycle games for a first time event called Pedal Mania which is part of the big city's annual River Festival. The props we made for the Disgruntled Paperboy Throw functioned and held up pretty well. We also set up bicycle bowling where you roll a bicycle wheel at 2 liter bottles of pop set up like bowling pins and the Tube Toss which is like ring toss only throwing bicycle inner-tubes over traffic cones. I think everyone had a pretty good time.
Nova, our Daughter, our 3 Grand-kids and my Parents, all pitched in to help. We had 4 car/truck loads of people, bikes, game props, tent, tables, coolers etc... I don't think any of these bike events would happen if it wasn't for their support and help.
Our bike club is participating in a bike event for a festival in the big city. One of the games we're hosting is what I'm calling the Disgruntled Paperboy Throw. We've been busy building targets for the game.
The dog house name plate has since been changed to "Spike".
A friend and fellow club member got us a couple paper boy bags to use.
Tonight we tested a couple of the "targets" out. We hadn't gotten the real deal bags yet so the kids were using a messenger bag we have.
A while back we signed up for the Tour De Cure, a fund raising ride for the American Diabetes Association. Even though we didn't raise squat (there's supposed to be a minimum fund raising amount) we were still allowed to participate today and along with a few members of our bike club rode as a team in the the 5 mile "Family Ride" on our old bikes. We received shirts, swag and were fed afterwards.
Last year was a good turn out and a fun time. A lot of bikes and parts changed hands. I'm sure this year will be even bigger and better. I'm really needing to thin out the collection and plan to do so here. We'll see if I can actually part with anything when it comes time.
Last night we (along with a few others from our bike club) attended the first Big Scary Bike Ride in the town of Hutchinson which is about an hour away. It was a fun time. More on the event here.
Every year leading up to the fest I say it's the last but then at the fest I see/hear people having a great time and afterwards they're already making plans for next year and I change my mind. Past few years I've gotten additional help which makes a big difference. All the details here or check out this video...
This Labor Day weekend we took off for Ft Collins, Colorado to attend the Tour De Fat put on by the New Belgium Brewery (makers of Fat Tire and many other beers). This was our 4th TDF, our 2nd in Ft Collins (the Mother Ship) and the biggest one yet. What a great time! They estimate 15,000 bikes rode in the parade. Food, beer, vaudeville acts, great costumes and bikes, music by Mucca Pazza and a lot more. A few others from our bike club were also there.
This morning was the first Mayor's Family Bike Day in the big city. Four generations of our family attended. We participated in a couple of rides, an obstacle course and the paper boy throw. Ally won a bike and Blake won a few bike accessories. We all got event t-shirts. Two nights ago the kids and I made Coasters t-shirts using printer iron on transfers. They wore them today.
