Yesterday we took an hours drive to the small town of Partridge Kansas to attend their fall festival which is centered around bicycles. The town is really small (pop 250 or so) and the Main street which the parade takes place on is dirt.
After the festival we met another couple in the near-by town of Hutchinson where we ate, unloaded the bikes and rode around.
Just some of the bikes waiting for parade to start.
Nova on one of many of theses trikes there to ride.
Another great but exhausting Midwest Bicycle Fest has come and gone. Had quite a bit of help this year though. Now that the Daughter and Grandkids are back it was once again 4 generations of my family in attendance and helping.
The sign I was making worked out pretty good. Here it is in use.
I can't believe it's been seven years since I started this event. I was initially inspired to do so by the Louisiana Bicycle Festival which we attended in 2005.
Our bike club was asked to put on a display at the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina, KS which is a 3 day music and art festival held this past weekend. I couldn't make it all 3 days as I had to work and had this event going on in town. My parents graciously agreed to haul my bikes to the festival for set up and then we went on the last day. It is a really nice event and our bike group did a great job of setting up and managing our display.
Yesterday along with our bike group and my entire family, we hosted a bicycle show and bicycle games for a first time event called Pedal Mania which is part of the big city's annual River Festival. The props we made for the Disgruntled Paperboy Throw functioned and held up pretty well. We also set up bicycle bowling where you roll a bicycle wheel at 2 liter bottles of pop set up like bowling pins and the Tube Toss which is like ring toss only throwing bicycle inner-tubes over traffic cones. I think everyone had a pretty good time.
Nova, our Daughter, our 3 Grand-kids and my Parents, all pitched in to help. We had 4 car/truck loads of people, bikes, game props, tent, tables, coolers etc... I don't think any of these bike events would happen if it wasn't for their support and help.
Every year leading up to the fest I say it's the last but then at the fest I see/hear people having a great time and afterwards they're already making plans for next year and I change my mind. Past few years I've gotten additional help which makes a big difference. All the details here or check out this video...
Today Nova and I along with our bicycle club attended the Partridge Pedal party in the small town of Partridge Kansas (pop 250). One of the events is riding in the parade which goes the length of the town's dirt road main street.
September is always a busy and stressful month as we prepare for the annual Midwest Bicycle Fest which is tomorrow. This will be the 5th year that my family has put on this event. The house is a mess with donated door prizes, t-shirts, posters, trophies etc.. The garage is a mess also with our bikes, raffle bike, bottled water, coolers, props for games and other stuff. Every year I say "never again" but after the fest I hear people tell what a great time they had and already talking about next year.
