The last ride on our trip was Thursday which was a out and back ride that was on gravel and forest roads in Grand county Colorado. The ride takes you to the top of Dice Hill which seemed more like a mountain than a hill. It was a pretty challenging climb for us. It was a 12 mile ride total with a climb of 1768 ft.
GPS track here.
Today we drove an hour and a half to the town of Lindsborg, Kansas. From there we rode about 4.5 miles up to Coronado Heights and back. Lindsborg was settled in the spring of 1869 by a group of Swedish immigrants. Coronado Heights receives its name from the Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, who visited central Kansas in 1541. Supposedly he climbed this hill looking for the Native American community of Quivira, where he was told "trees hung with golden bells and ... pots and pans were beaten gold."
Once back in Lindsborg we rode the 2.5 mile Välkommen Trail which is a paved rail-to-trail. There are several historical signs along this trail. There are plans to extend the trail to Mcpherson which will become the Meadowlark Trail.
In Lindsborg we walked around town and had lunch at Jalisco which was good but they don't serve alcohol.
We rode a total of about 14 miles. I believe the temperature was only in the 50s, not the upper 60s as predicted. Nova got the polka dot jersey on this ride. GPS track one way here.
One of the rare times this has happened but I was allowed to bring a bike in the house to work on it. It's Novas and I put it up on my new work-stand so I could install her new cyclo-computer.
We then went out for a (cold) morning ride.
The ride was cut short (8.5 miles) due to a nose bleed so we came home and had coffee and cookies that we received for Christmas yesterday.
Today we went for a 27 mile in ride in the country. Our route was a loop that took us across the Ninnescah river twice on two different bridges. Other than Nova getting bit by a chasing dog it was an enjoyable ride. Luckily the dog only got a hold of the heel of her shoe. Ride track here.
This morning we took a 25 mile ride (round trip) to the nearby Ninnescah river. Mostly on gravel roads. Once back in town we stopped at the Sonic for lunch and a limeade which really hit the spot. Riding home we spotted a couple of old bikes in a "seniors" residence complex. I don't know if they are for decoration or riding. View track here.
I did some work on one of Nova's cruiser bikes rebuilding the rear hub and cleaning it up a little. I don't have a work stand so what I do is hang the bike from the opposite end I'm working on from the garage door rail.
Later we went for a 12 mile ride out towards the country on both pavement and gravel roads.
This morning I made a quick ride mostly on gravel roads to the Southwest for a total of 10 miles. Temp was in lower 80s and the humidity 66%. Sure thought it was hotter than that.
