We went for a 27 mile ride today. The only real laboring we did was a few miles against a pretty good wind. The temperature was a little chilly starting out. Rode the Planeview, Gypsum Creek and some of the Arkansas River paths. We stopped at the mall, Target and Gander Mountain.
On my actual birthday I received even more bicycle cards. The 2 were drawn by a Grandson and the Granddaughter. Those are Bey Blades along side the bicycles which are these battling tops that we play with.
Today the Grandkids and I rode around town checking out the Independence Day festivites. We watched the parade, frog jumping contest, raft races and volleyball.
This was supposed to be a combination of our annual Patriotic Pub Pedal and the New Belgium Brewery's 20th anniversary party which was to include a ride. We sat around enjoying various New Belgium beers waiting for the ride to begin but nothing was ever announced so our group just went on our usual Thursday Night ride. Here is the video I shot...
Two years ago I hurriedly built up this Schwinn American for our Patriotic Ride but wasn't real pleased with it. A couple days ago I went and got the frame out of storage to hurriedly build it up again for this year's Patriotic ride. I repainted the frame in a darker, flat blue. Put on different bars that I painted off white. Reupholstered some leopard grips with red material. Put on a different seat and made the tank plate. To quote myself from last time "I'd like to have done more but ran out of time. Maybe next year." More photos here.
We started out the day by taking my 77 year old Father on a bike ride. He jogs regularly and is in good shape but only rides a bike a couple times a year. We went to our local rail-to-trail the Prairie Sunset , riding it out and back and then some for a total of 17.5 miles. Along the way we spotted a fox, a deer, rabbits, a snake and a Oriole among other birds.
This evening we went to my parents for dinner and stuffed ourselves on Mom's chicken and noodles. My Daughter got me this shirt for Fathers Day.
